2 dies of COVID-19

SHILLONG, JAN 21:  Two more persons have died due to COVID-19, taking the death toll to 146 in the state on Thursday.

73-year-old Chaya Paul of Upper Mawprem was declared brought dead at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on January 18. She was later tested positive for COVID-19, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.

Dr War said 61-year-old Tanu Das of Jorhat, Assam also passed away at the same hospital on January 20.

“The cause of death was due to brain stem bleed, renal parenchymal disease, COVID-19, diabetes mellitus and hypertension,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state has also recorded 4 new COVID-19 cases and 6 recoveries on Wednesday.

Dr War said the new cases included 2 in East Khasi Hills district and 2 in East Jaintia Hills district.

He informed that the 6 patients who recovered from the viral infection include 3 from East Khasi Hills and 3 from West Jaintia Hills.

So far, the state has detected a total of 13,721 COVID-19 cases out of which 129 are active cases, 13,446 recovered and 146 deaths.

East Khasi Hills has 97 active cases, East Jaintia Hills 16, West Jaintia Hills 6, Ri Bhoi 3, North Garo Hills 3, West Garo Hills 2 and West Khasi Hills 2.

On the other hand, of the 3,23,284 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 3,09,563 were tested negative for the virus even as 61 persons are in institutional quarantine and 71 under home quarantine.

There are 85,192 entrants from outside the state.
