2 including HNYF leader arrested in Shillong IED bomb blast incident

Two persons, including the disciplinary secretary of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), were arrested for their alleged involvement in the IED bomb blast at Them Iew Mawlong on March 9.

58-year-old Tarson Lymba, who is an HNYF leader, was arrested from Dawki while Ebakordor Nongpluh (26) from Shillong (in Malki area) on Sunday night, East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi told reporters.

Both have been produced today before the court, which has remanded them to 10 days police custody, he said.

The SP said that the arrest made was on the basis of strong evidence in respect to the March 9 incident adding that anybody’s involvement with any group or NGOs is not a matter of investigation or relevant to the police.

On March 9, at around 10.30 pm, a crude improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated in an uninhabited and abandoned CGI sheet structure at Syndicate Bus Stand, Punjabi Lane, Mawlonghat.

The incident also took place seven days after the arrest of the HNLC’s PSO Storgy Lyngdoh from Mawlynrei in connection with the extortion drive by the outfit.
