SHILLONG, MAY 9: A total of 2623 people stranded in various parts of the North East states, have returned to the state on Saturday.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the 2623 stranded people including students have arrived in the state till 3pm today.
“Some will be arriving in the evening and by tomorrow, we will be able to receive all of them,” he said. Over 3,000 stranded people have registered with the government.
A separate official statement informed that till 1 pm, there were 2470 people from Meghalaya who entered back in the state.
Of these, 177 from Tikrikila Check Point, 330 from Ratacherra Check Point, 1058 from Bajengdoba Chech Point and 878 from Byrnihat Check Point
The statement said that the government of Meghalaya is bringing back its stranded citizens from the North East States, starting with Assam which has the highest number of such persons.
In the initial phase, citizens stranded in Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup (Rural), Sonitpur, Biswanath, and Cachar, Tinsukia were brought in. Also, the stranded people from Kokrajhar, Karimganj, Hojai, Dima Haso, Dibrugarh, Sibasagar, Hailakandi and Dhemaji from Assam State are being brought in today,” it added.
