28 MLAs bite the dust

SHILLONG, FEB 28: Twenty eight sitting legislatorsfrom different political partiesdidn’t make it to the ninth Meghalaya legislative assembly. Prominent among them are assembly speaker and Congress candidate Charles Pyngrope and deputy chief minister and UDP candidate Bindo M Lanong and Leader of opposition in Meghalaya assembly and NPP leader Conrad K Sangma.  

In East Khasi hills Pyngrope, Dr. PW Khongjee, Manas Chaudhury, Founder S Cajee of the Congress lost the election. UDP’s Bindo Lanong, JA Lyngdoh and Independent Don Massar were the others to have lost in the constituencies located in East Khasi hills district.

In West Khasi hills Dr. Adviser Pariong of the Congress lost.

In Jaintia hills minister Shitlang Pale and Lakmen Rymbui of the Congress and ECB Bamon of NPP were also defeated.

In Garo hills FW Momin, Sayeedullah Nongrum, Adolf Lu Hitler and Francis Pondit R Sangma of Congress, Conrad K Sangma, Desang M Sangma, Satto R Marak, Phillipole D Marak, Omillo K Sangma, Timothy Shira and Marcuise N Marak of NPP were among the twenty-eight sitting legislators to have lost their seats.

Two Independent MLAs Ismail R Marak and Abdul Saleh also join the club of sitting legislators who were not reelected

Of the twenty-eight sitting legislators eleven were from the Congress party nine from NPP, four from UDP and four Independents.- By Our Reporter
