SHILLONG, MAR 1: Incumbent chief minister Mukul Sangma has been reelected as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Friday afternoon at Pinewood hotel and subsequently will once again become the chief minister of Meghalaya.
Sangma was announced as the leader of the CLP after the three Congress observers had one to one meeting with all the twenty-nine newly elected party legislators in room no 17 of the hotel. The three leaders- union minister and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Vayalar Ravi, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretaries Mukul Wasik and Sanjay Bapna, who are in-charge of Meghalaya-, took time to consult all the legislators.
Thanking the AICC leaders, party legislators and workers for choosing him to lead the party in the state, Sangma promised to fulfill the aspirations of the people of the state and also strive to work harder for the state.
However before the announcement was made of Sangma being chosen to become the CLP leader, former chief minister and Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president DD Lapang had told this website that “Number does not ensure stability, there are so many factors required for a stable government”referring to thetwenty-nine MLAS that the Congress party has in the new assembly.
Giving enough indication that it was a different ball game to keep the twenty-nine legislators united, Lapang said, “It needs more that mere number to keep the party and government stable.” – By Our Reporter
