3 HNLC recruits arrested

SHILLONG, MAR 14: Three new recruits of the banned Khasi rebel outfit – Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) were arrested on Friday by police while they were travelling towards the Indo – Bangla border with an intention to cross over to Bangladesh even as state police have intensified operation in the region.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said, “We immediately acted on intelligence input that some youths who been recruited by the HNLC are bound for the border for crossing over to Bangladesh.”

Kharkhrang said during search operation, police intercepted two suspicious Sumos and arrested three youths.

Kharkhrang said the arrested youths have been identified as Toni Roy Pale (28) of Kyrdem, Shanbor Maring (19) and Kyrshan Kyriem (28), both of Mawtnum village in Ri Bhoi district. The three have recently joined the outfit.

“They will be book under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act  and interrogation is still on”, Khar khrang informed.

Kharkhrange also informed that the state police have launched massive operation in the border areas under Mawsynram police station. He said that the police are still conducting operations and are committed to take all legal action available against such persons joining the banned organization. – By Our Reporter
