“The names of only eight out of 11 executive members were approved by the Governor,” newly elected chief executive member (CEM) Thombor Shiwot told reporters after a meeting on Friday.

Shiwot said, “We have not been able to decide as yet on the two posts of executive members and we would take a call on the matter only after the ensuing Lok Sabha elections slated to be held next month.”

The eight EMs, all are from Congress, included – Joinriwell Pyrtuh, Holando Lamin, Kilometer Lytan, Arborhima Darnei, Philip Tangliang, A Andrew Shullai, Desous Pohshna and Pheinshwa Nanglein.

The Congress which emerged as the single largest party winning 14 seats in Jaintia Hills also has the support of seven Independent MDCs and one nominated MDC, boosting its strength to 22 in the 30-member JHADC.

On being asked, Shiwot, also a two terms MDC said, “There is possibility that the party might consider the two vacant EM posts reserved for independent MDCs.” He informed that the party will settle this matter at the earliest and ensure that nobody feels that they are being left out.

Commenting on the recent arrest of his party colleague, a former CEM of JHADC Madonbai Rymbai, Shiwot said that under his leadership he would ensure that the executive committee will function in a transparent and accountable way. He said,“We don’t want what has happen in the past to repeat in the  new executive committee.” – By Our Reporter
