SHILLONG, MAR 14: Meghalaya assembly speaker AT Mondal directed the state government to take action those doctors who had availed the state quota for studying MBBS but failed to serve in the state after completion of their studies.
The direction came after the Meghalaya health minister AL Hek informed the state assembly on Friday that over 92 doctors who had studied under government quota have failed to serve in the health centres of the state.
Replying to a supplementary question Hek informed that of the 14 out of 42 doctors who were from the 2003-04 batch have not serve the state, while 16 in 2004-05, 17 in 2005-06, 23 in 2006-07, 22 in 2007-08, he said while informing that the 2008-09 and 2010-11 batches are yet to complete their studies.
Hek hh said that the total number of doctors posted in each PHC/CHC depends upon the availability of manpower even as he said that there was shortage of manpower in these centers.
Earlier, HSPDP legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit questioned the government on the steps taken against those government doctors who practice in their own private clinics.
To this, Hek said there is no provision disallowing them and that the government is not paying any practice allowances to them.- By Our Reporter
