3-week-old baby murdered

SHILLONG, JUNE 19: A three-week-old infant was murdered by a masked person in the city on the wee hours of Tuesday.

The incident took place at around 2.30 am when the person who had covered his face forcefully broke into the house of a resident of Mission Compound.

East Khasi Hills District police chief Davis NR Marak said that the accused person assaulted the mother and snatched away the baby boy from her.

“The three-week old baby was later found dumped head down in a bucket on the terrace of the house after sometimes but the masked man was missing,” he said.

He said although the baby was found breathing at the time the police team found him, he was declared brought dead at the nearest hospital.

The masked man has been identified later based on the information provided by the family of the woman.

An FIR was lodged by the uncle of the baby at Lumdiengjri PS and a murder case was registered, the SP said.

Family sources informed that the accused was identified as the former boyfriend of the 30-year old mother.
