A nursing intern rescued from WB

SHILLONG, SEPT 25: A nursing intern from Jaintia Hills region, who was trafficked to West Bengal, was rescued by the Meghalaya police recently after she was kidnapped from Guwahati seven months ago.

The 24-year-old victim is a resident of Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District.

The victim who was working as a nursing intern at the GNRC Hospital, Guwahati and staying as a paying guest in the Super Market area which is about 50 metres from the hospital, went missing under mysterious circumstances on February 2.

On February 21, an FIR was filed Jemina Rymbai on her daughter’s disappearance, at Dispur Police Station. She then again filed a missing report at Lumdiengjri Police Station on February 26.

SP (City) Vivek Syiem said the victim was rescued from Khalpara Siliguri, where she was kept under confinement and unite her with her parents who had accompanied the police team.

He said the Missing Squad of the East Khasi Hills District Police had vigorously pursued the case, notwithstanding the fact that the girl went missing from Guwahati.

The raid was conducted following the apprehension of one Nur Muhammad of Sonatary village under Tarabari police station Barpeta with the assistance of Boko police station, who was found involved in the disappearance of the victim.

He said Nur was the last person to have met her and was in possession of some of her belongings and admitted to have abandoned her at Hajo after crossing Saraighat Bridge.

Following his apprehension, Guwahati City Police registered a regular case vide Basistha PS Case No. 260(04)2017 u/s 366/376 IPC and arrested the accused, but the investigation could not make further progress.

The Missing Desk East Khasi Hills continued to pursue the matter and gathered information that she had been trafficked to West Bengal.

The Missing Squad and the Anti Human Trafficking Unit, East Khasi Hills followed up the matter and after receiving information that she was somewhere trafficked to Siliguri, left for the destination along with a team of the Assam Police on September 22, he said.

Meanwhile, the SP said that her captors however managed to give the slip when the raid was conducted in the area. “Investigation is still on to identify the traffickers and the circumstances of her being kidnapped,” he added.
