TURA, JULY 2: West Garo hills police rescued the kidnapped primary school teacher Utpal Dey from the clutches of ASAK militants who demand Rs 20 lakhs from the family of the teacher.
The daring rescue took place late Tuesday night from Sasatgre village about 35 kilometers away from Tura town. This is the fourth rescue by the police in the last two weeks of people who were kidnapped by militants.
The police have also intensified its operation to rescue a shoe trader Tapan Sahawho who is still untraced after being kidnapped by militants.
Dey was kidnapped by about seven ASAK militants while he was returning to Dalu from Tura in an auto rickshaw. The 40 years old school teacher of a primary school in Dalu has now returned safely to his family.
Police said that they launched an operation for Dey’s rescue after getting credible inputs about the presence of militants and Dey in Sasatgre village near Kherapara. A member of the police rescue team said they were very careful during the rescue operation as it was night and the police did not want to hurt Dey.
The police resorted to limited firing for about five minutes and the militants fled leaving behind Dey at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday.- By Our Reporter
