SHILLONG, JULY 15: For the lovers of the Khasi films, here is the news that might bring cheers to them. The national award winning Khasi feature film “Ri” – a film about the complexity of insurgency in Meghalaya, screening in the Bijou cinema hall will continue for the second week from July 18- 24 because of viewers demand from across the state.
“Due to public demand, we have decided to continue the screening of the film for the 2nd week from July 18 – 24,” film director Pradip Kurbah said here. The first week screening of the movie in Bijou cinema hall will end on July 17.
Kurbah said over ten thousand people coming from different parts of the city and rural areas have so far watched the movie. For the benefit of the lovers of the film he informed that the team has decided to screen the movie at U Soso Tham Auditorium on August 10.
According to Kurbah, efforts are being made to screen the movie outside the state like in Kolkata, Bengaluru and Delhi.
The film had bagged the National Award for ‘Best Feature Film’ in the language specified other than those in listed in Schedule VIII of the Constitution.
The film was also shot at the international border with Bangladesh.
While languages such as Khasi, Jaintia and War and Sylheti was used in the movie, Kurbar said, “We have also received requests to dub the movie in Manipuri and Assamese language which we are examining.”
Kurbah said his movie talks more about human emotions as no one is born as a militant carrying a positive message that militancy is not the solution. He said, “The movie is all about propagating the message of peace and harmony.”
The film portrays how youths get lured into militancy and diverse ideologies without being able to reason out how the gun can actually resolve their angst against corruption and unemployment.
Adding to this, actor Merlvin Mukhim said, “The whole idea of coming with the movie Ri is to bring a film inside out, something to take out of here and we wanted to create a film which will have people to comment and get the kind of appreciation it deserves.
According to Mukhim, it is time that Khasi film producers need not limit their film just for “our people”.– By Our Reporter
