SHILLONG, FEB 18: Appealing to the electorates to vote for the Congress en-mass, Bollywood actor and Congress leader Raj Babbar said voting for regional parties which are splintered in many groups and enabling them to form the government will only hamper the pace of development in the state.

Addressing a Congress rally in Khliehriat organized by the  Khliehriat Block Congress Committee (KBCC) to garner support for its Khliehriat candidate and  MDC Amos Dkhar at Dienshynrum stadium on Monday, Babbar said only the Congress party has leaders like Sonia and Rahul Gandhi who are committed to development.

Addressing a crowd of about three thousands, Babbar said it is only the Congress that works for development, unity and security of the people. He also said that his assembly election will also decide the fate of the youths and issue like women security as the Congress is committed to both these important issues.

Babbar also said that funds to the newly created East Jaintia hills district will be made available in plenty so that development and progress takes place at a faster rate.

Explaining about the stand of the Congress on corruption, Babbar said that the party leaders are committed to fight corruption and this is reflected in the fact that it was the Congress which pass the anti-corruption bill RTI. He said, “If the Congress leaders were corrupt the party would not have brought about a law like RTI.”

Babar also spoke about the Congress commitment to further empower and strength the district council, creation of more jobs opportunities in
government and non government sector for the unemployed youths, better health service and women security among others.

Former MDC and UDP deserter Helping Phawa also spoke saying that the Congress will win thirty-two seats in
the ensuing assembly election.

Other who spoke includes KBCC chairman and Principal Jaintia Eastern College P Nongtdu and MDC W Passah while MDC J Pyrtuh presided over the meeting.- By Our Reporter
