An HNLC aide arrested in Shillong IED blast incident

 One more person has been arrested for his involvement in the March 9-IED bomb blast at Them Iew Mawlong, police said on Tuesday.

21-year-old Namphyrnai Lyngdoh Peinlang from Peinlang village was arrested from Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills and was brought to Shillong on Monday.

“With the help and assistance of Mairang police and Ri Bhoi police, we have arrested a third person yesterday. He is one of the main suspects in the case,” East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi said.

He informed that the arrested person was in contact with active members of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

“Further investigation in the matter is under progress,” the SP said while adding that East Khasi Hills police is determined to bring all the perpetrators who played a role in the conspiracy, abetment, financing, and carrying out the task of bomb blast to justice.

On March 11, 58-year-old Tarson Lymba, who is an HNYF leader, was arrested from Dawki while Ebakordor Nongpluh (26) from Shillong (in Malki area) following the bomb blast incident.

Further, police on March 12 also busted an active sleeper cell of the HNLC and foiled its attempt to explode more IEDs in Shillong and Nongpoh town.

Four members of the outfit were arrested from Ri Bhoi district. They have been identified as Damanbha Ripnar alias Shall Lapang, Robinis Ripnar, Jill Tariang and Shining Nongrum.

Subsequent to this, the HNLC on March 14, claimed responsibility for the March 9-IED bomb blast at Them Metor (Them Iew Mawlong) and served a one month ultimatum to the government for relocation of the 342 families of Sweepers’ Colony from the area.

When asked, SP said that the security in the city and across the district has been beefed up.
