“Killings motivated”

SHILLONG, AUG 11: ANVC (B) alleged that the recent killing of its members in Assam was a political conspiracy instigated by UALA and GNU with the blessing of the Maoists.

In a statement issued on Sunday ANVC (B) publicity secretary Doang D Shira said, “ANVC (B) cadres are not extortionists. Cold blooded murder of ANVC (B) cadres in Assam was a political conspiracy which was instigated by UALA, executed by GNU with the blessing of Maoists,”

Shira said that the people of Assam forgot that the slain cadres were those who stood by them in the Rabha-Garo conflict. He said, “They (ANVC.B cadres) were there not to demand money but to collect information on Maoist intrusion into Garo areas.” He claimed that the ANVC(B) knows about the Maoist activities in Assam and their links with certain Garo groups.

Shira further alleged that the GNU is closely associated with UALA which is having some understanding with the Maoists.

“UALA is finding it difficult to expand its network in Garo hills as the ANVC(B) cadres are influencing UALA members to desert and come back to outfit’s fold,” Shira stated.

Shira claims that many cadres have deserted UALA and came back to ANVC(B) and they have informed about the deals, list of their patrons and contacts with outside organizations to the outfit.

Shira said on the day its outfit members were killed the ANVC(B) cadres had gone to meet one Crieston Momin of Baghmara (Upper Chutipara) who is an arm supplier, UALA adviser and a Maoist contact in Assam. The ANVC(B) cadres had asked him to refrain from helping outsiders to set up base in Garo areas and stop influencing Garo organisations.

The statement further stated that the ANVC (B) cadres reminded him to return the money which he had borrowed a year before as he was supplying arms to UALA leader Jagring. He took it as a threat and made false alarm that cadres were RHAC supporters which led the civilians, including certain individuals, to kill them.

The statement said the ANVC(B) has lost many cadres on attacks which was made to look like a mob but actually instigated by certain groups.

The ANVC(B) also appealed to the Assam government to initiate investigation into the incident.- By Our Reporter
