State becoming battlefield

SHILLONG, DEC 4: The A’chik National Volunteer Council- B (ANVC-B) felt that the ‘stubborn-attitude’ of the state government is turning Meghalaya into a ‘battlefield’ and two precious lives were lost as the government ignored the demand of the pro Inner Line Permit (ILP) ngos who wants implementation of the ILP.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, ANVC-B publicity secretary Doang D. Shira said,  “Two lives were lost in the three month of pro ILP agitations and more could follow if government ignores the demand of the tribal population.”

The ANVC statement also said that the government is more inclined listening to organization with the “kill agenda” rather than the ngos which prompted the latter to “ go wild to get some response from the government.”

The ANVC(B) statement  also advised the government by saying, “Government must stop turning a deaf ear and start listening to the public, it will be more sensible.”

The ANVC(B) said that pro ILP rally in Shillong pulled huge crowd but the government remained unmoved on the demand of the ngos which it alleged that Meghalaya has lost the spirit of “democracy” and people oriented good governance as the voice of the mass is unheard.

Shira said that organisation with “kill” agenda gets more attention in the state than those with genuine issues which triggers the rise of violence, killing and many splinter groups in the state. He questioned why the government cannot listen to the public when they can listen to GNLA and UALA? – By Our Reporter
