AAP floats unit, Agnes join Kejriwal

Shillong, January 23: The Aam Admi Party (AAP) is toying with the idea of putting up party’s candidates in the upcoming district council and Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya. The AAP has appointed CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing as one of the three state coordinators along with twelve other members for enrolment drive in all the districts of the state.

AAP national executive member( in-charge of North Eastern states camp) Habung Payeng told reporters after the party’s meeting at Shillong Club on Thursday, “We have constituted the preparatory committee in the state in order to organize the district committees of AAP in Meghalaya.”

Payeng informed that based on the formation of the district committees, the AAP will decide whether to put up candidates for the Lok Sabha elections for the  Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats.”

Payeng hinted that the party is likely to put up candidates in the upcoming district council elections in the state while stressing that reaching out to the grass-root is of utmost importance for the party as it will ensure strong foundation in the state.

During the meeting, besides Agnes Kharshiing others from the state have also joined the AAP. The party is officially enrolling members to reach the one crore mark by January 26.

Besides Kharshiing, other CSWO members have also joined the AAP.

Payeng informed that the enrolment drive is on in the north eastern states and it would be very  intense in the state  as he felt that the common people were deprived of a lot of their rights by the politicians so large number of people are expected to join.

Highlighting on the ideology of the AAP, Payeng said the party has created a revolution and is a different from the others which he hope will get a positive response from the people. He also said the committee constituted on Thursday is temporary which shall automatically be dissolved after constitution of formal state committee of Meghalaya.

Payeng said,“We have directed the coordinator and joint coordinators to coordinate the ongoing organizational activities with the support of the  national executive member who will give guidance to the committee from time to time.” – By Our Reporter
