SHILLONG, SEPT 16: A day after the United Democratic Party (UDP) dropped its demand for replacing KHADC’s Chief Executive Member (CEM) Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, the latter said he is willing to accept the suggestions made by the UDP, which is the coalition partner of the HSPDP and KHNAM in the ruling All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) in the council, provided it is constructive.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday Basaiawmoit said that if the UDP’s suggestion  is at all constructive he is willing to listen even as he announced that his final decision on the present crisis will be declare during the proposed public meeting on September 19.

“I am ready to accept the suggestions made by them if they are constructive enough for the interest and welfare of the people and the land,” Basaiawmoit said.

Softening its stand the UDP, which had been demanding Basaiawmoit replacement as ARPA leader and CEM,  on Monday decided to give him a second chance with a rider that he improve his conduct as a leader.

The UDP also wants the CEM to behave as a leader of the coalition ARPA and be transparent in his way of functioning and respect his fellow colleagues in the KHADC’s Executive Committee.

Informing that UDP is yet to officially communicate its proposed points to the ARPA, Basaiawmoit however said, “But it will all depends on me to decide whether I can or can’t work under those conditions proposed by them (UDP).”

Basaiawmoit said he will go ahead with the public meeting on September 19 and give his final decision on the crisis in the KHADC.

“Till this moment, my intention to hold the public meeting has not change and I have decided that I will clarify before the public on the recent allegations leveled against me besides other problems,” Basaiawmoit said.  He said he has the right to clarify and ensure that the public are not in any way being misled on  this issue.”

Earlier, Basaiawmoit had hinted that he might step down from the post of CEM to end the impasse in the KHADC.- By Our Reporter
