Arms for GNLA seized

SHILLONG, SEPT 7: An arms dealer and two others were arrested by police after they were caught red handed ferrying arms in a truck for the Garo National Liberation Council (GNLA) militant group. The arrest was made after the police got intelligence inputs of arms being carried in a truck which was detected in the Assam-Meghalaya border on the wee hour of Saturday.The police detected the truck at Khetri in Assam’s Goalpara district which was on its way to Mendipathar in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills district. The truck started from Dimapur in Nagaland and passed through Guwahati before it was held at Khetri.

The lone driver who was driving the truck was arrested and police found an AK 56 riffle, an .303 riffle, a shotgun and a .22 riffle from the truck besides 354 numbers of 7.62 riffle ammunition, 122 numbers of AK ammunition and 33 numbers of shotgun ammunition. The arrested driver revealed to the police that the arms consignment was meant for delivering to the GNLA handlers at Mendipathar.  Acting on the inputs provided by the driver police also arrested two arms dealers involved in the case – one from Guwahati and the other two from Tura.-By Our Reporter

    Who loaded the weapons in the Truck and who gave these weapons to the Driver? ..Why is the Driver not giving the name of the person in Nagaland, who loaded the truck with these weapons ? or is it that the guns were planted ? Something does not seem right…
