KSU leaders arrested,blockade announced

Kharkhrang1SHILLONG, SEPT 8: Even as police arrested the KSU Nongmynsong unit president Donbor Wahlang, general secretary Banlumlang Syiemlieh and a member  Starsing Nongseij on Saturday, the ngos have announced additional four days road blockade to pressurize the government for implementation of the Inner Line Permit.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said that Wahlang and Syiemlieh were arrested because police found a catapult and stones from their possession while Nongseij was arrested for his involvement in the recent arson cases in Nongmynsong. He also said other KSU members who were not found have been issued notices under section 41CrPC to report to the police station.

Kharkhrang also informed that the involvement of the KSU members who have been issued the notices have been established after police had made some arrest earlier.

Meanwhile the road fresh four days road blockade will start from September 10 from 7 pm to 5 pm throughout the state.

KSU vice president Fredrick Kharmawphlang said, “We have decided to call for a four days night blockade, as a move to intensify our stir to protest against the state government‘s failure to implement the inner line permit (ILP) as recommendation of the High Level Committee on Influx (HCLI),”

The decision for the four days night road blockade was taken at a meeting of the ten pressure groups. The agitations by the ngod have started since Monday last with a 12 hours bandh and three days night road blockade following the failure of dialogue with the state government.

While demanding that the ILP should be immediately implemented in the state Kharmawphlang warned massive agitational programmes are on the cards in the coming days if the government continues ignore their demands. He said, “We will announce our next course of action after the September 13 and will fight till our demand is accepted.”

Meanwhile, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has also called for a one day sit in demonstration on Monday to express their displeasure to the government over refusal to implement the ILP and also to create awareness on the need to implement the ILP in the state.- By Our Reporter
