Arms smuggler held

SHILLONG, FEB 20: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday arrested an arms smuggler from India along the Indo-Bangla border in East Khasi hills district while he was trying to enter the neighbouring country. A .22 mm revolver, mobile phone and some cash were recovered from his possession.

Officials said acting on specific inputs, a BSF team swung into action and nabbed the smuggler Dilwart Sangma (27), who hails from Khyrdo village under Mawsynram in East Khasi hills district.

During the past two days, the BSF also seized liquor and contraband items worth about Rs. 1, 25,000 while they were being smuggled to Bangladesh.

“Apprehended persons and seized items have been handed over to the concerned departments for further and necessary legal action,” said an official. (By Our Reporter)
