Recruits leave for training

SHILLONG, DEC 19: Ninety-seven candidates from Meghalaya who were recently recruited into the Indian Army were dispatch to the various army training centres across the country on Thursday.  Addressing the dispatch ceremony, state home minister Roshan Warjri expressed her appreciation to the Indian Army for showing keen interest to increase the recruitment from the region.

Warjri informed that this was one of highest number of recruitment in the Indian Army from Meghalaya. On the proposal submitted by the Indian Army, Warjri assured that the state government would look into the detailed action plan as to how the recruitment from the state can be increased.

“We will examine the proposals of setting up of training centres, incentives for students, coaching centre besides other important issues,” Warjri stated.  Congratulating the new recruits, she said as  new recruits, they should be an inspiration to others by spreading the message to them on the need to take advantage of the opportunities that are there.

Warjri  said, “You will be guarding our borders and we depend on you. It is because of men like you that citizen can go and work knowing that you will always there to protect the people and the country.”  She said the ninety candidates will be shaped into steel from raw iron to be pillars and strength of the Indian Army and the country.

Warjri and all dignitaries interacted informally with the candidates and their parents, who were all very happy.

Later, the Warjri also flagged-off the convoy carrying the recruits to Guwahati Railway Station to be dispatched to the different Assam Regiment Centres.

The continuous efforts, interaction and co-operation of Recruiting team of Recruiting Office (Headquarters), Shillong lead by Colonel M Chopra, Director Recruiting, Recruiting Office (Headquarters) with the East Khasi hills district administration made the event a huge success.

The army officers who were present theire said there are large numbers of vacancies in technical trades like Clerks, Nursing Assistants, Havildar Education, Technical.  The merit list for these categories is all India including seven NE States.

“People should study English, Science with Mathematics, up to at least Class 12th. They must also try to get commissioned in the Army,” Deputy Director General (DDG) Recruitment Brig RV Singh said.  He said that the recruitment in the Army is open, free and transparent. – By Our Reporter
