SHILLONG, FEB 24: In a day marked with high political drama and mixed fortune for the ruling All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) in the KHADC, chief executive member Adelbert Nongrum Executive Committee survived the no confidence motion after the opposition member withdrew the motion even as two EMs resigned on Tuesday.

Independent Nongskhen MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MDC PT Sawkmie resigned and joined the newly formed Congress led People’s Democratic Forum (PDF).

With their resignation the ruling regional parties conglomerate has been reduced from sixteen to fourteen MDCs in a house of twenty-nine. This however excludes KHADC chairperson   Teilinia Thangkhiew who is from the HSPDP.

Kharpuri and Sawkmie tendered their resignation to KHADC chief executive member (CEM) soon after ongoing budget session on Tuesday.

During the no confidence motion, the ARPA managed to survive after Independent MDC James Sylliang agreed to withdraw the NC which he had moved.

Kharpuri and Sawkmie had skipped the NC motion clearly indicating that they do no longer support ARPA.

During the NC, KHADC chief executive member Adelbert Nongrum requested Independent legislator James Shylliang to withdraw the no confidence motion requesting him more time to address the different issues of the KHADC for which the motion was moved. Accordingly, the NC was withdraw giving a new lease of life to the ARPA executive committee.

But the joy was short-lived as the two APRA EMs resigned later and joined the newly formed Congress led PDF swelling its number from twelve MDCs to fourteen in a house of twenty-nine MDCs.- By Our Reporter
