Arrest people for murder

SHILLONG, FEB 22: Three Jaintia hills ngos on Monday demanded immediate arrest of the people involved in the recent murder of one Plan Biam, who was accused of being ‘Menshohnoh’ at Saphai village in West Jaintia hills district.

While strongly condemning the incident, the Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF), All Hynniewtrep People United Front (AHPUF) and Jaintia National Union (JNU) has also threatened to lodge a complaint with the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) against such human rights violation.

“We demand the authority concerned to conduct a thorough investigation and accordingly arrest the people behind the brutal murder of the innocent soul,” the three ngos leaders said in a joint statement on Monday.

The ngos also informed that a joint petition would also be submitted to the NHRC as a mark of protest against such violation of human rights.

“Murdering a person out of suspicious that he is a menshohnoh or practicing witchcraft will not be tolerated as it is totally unacceptable,” the ngoss said.

Biam and his wife Sandalin Ymbon were assaulted by a mob while they were inside a forest on Saturday evening. While Biam died after his head was brutally smashed, his wife was taken in critical condition to the NEIGRIHMS after the attack by the mob.- By Our Reporter
