SHILLONG, APR 16: Opposition National People’s Party (NPP) accused the Congress led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA-II) coalition state government for allegedly ‘tricking’ the cadres of the disbanded ANVC and ANVC.(B) into signing the peace agreement but failing to provide any rehabilitation package to them.

“It is very clear that the state government has tricked them into signing the Agreement and has taken them for a ride with false promises,” NPP spokesperson James K Sangma said on Thursday.

Sangma said, “We condemned the lack of concern and indifference on the part of the state government to address the problems relating to the stipends and rehabilitation package to the ANVC and ANVC(B).”

According to Sangma, the state government is now only vitiating the atmosphere that has the potential to spiral out of control and might just send back the ANVC and ANVC (B) to the jungle.

Sangma said the NPP is very concerned of these cadres who genuinely believed the state government and accused the government of falsely making promises of a better future.

Sangma further felt that if the Meghalaya government continues to fool the ANVC and ANVC (B) how can it be expected other militant outfits like the GNLA to come forward for talks.

Sangma also accused the MUA II coalition government of being least concern of bringing peace in Garo hills and sought the intervention of the centre to resolve the issue.- By Our Reporter
