SHILLONG, OCT 16: A one year and nine months old baby died after a thatched house at Pingwait village under Mawkynrew block caught fire and burnt Wednesday evening. East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang informed that the house belonged to one Ihir Nongrum and the house caught fire and burnt while she went for fetching water leaving her seven year old daughter Batihun Nongrum and one year and nine month baby son Mebankitkhia Nongrum in the house.
The incident took place at around 4.30 pm. Officers have been deputed to conduct inquiry and take necessary action required. Kharkhrang, however, could not immediately say how the fire took place as the inquiry is being conducted.-By Our Reporter
