Step down CM : ANVC(B)

SHILLONG, SEPT 5: The Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC-B) chairman Rimpu N Marak on Friday claimed that the success of the 12-hours bandh on Thursday called by the outfit is people’s mandate for chief minister Mukul Sangma to step down and pave way for centre’s intervention.

The ANVC(B) also accused the Mukul Sangma led government of showing keenness to talk only to the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Marak said, “This is clear indication that people are fed up with power politics of the state government and its policies towards the people of Garo Hills.”

The ANVC(B) on Thursday had called for a 12 hour bandh in the five districts of Garo Hills demanding for immediate centre’s intervention into the present deteriorating law and order situation. The outfit also demanded probe by the NIA or CBI into the alleged order issued by chief minister against its cadres.

Marak said, “He (CM) is solely responsible for law and order situation in Garo Hills and secret killings.” According to him, people want to see change and peace which is possible only through Centre’s Intervention.

“We pray Centre to take up the matter at the earliest,” Marak stated. Stating that despite the present situation in Garo Hills which is untamable, Marak said, “The chief minister is keen in having talks only with the HNLC setting aside Garo organisations.”

“It is eminent that he wants to breed militants in Garo hills and make people suffer just to avail schemes from the centre meant for the militant affected areas. Garos don’t get benefit out of this. It is shameful to know that Meghalaya is progressing through ‘Garo blood” he said.

Marak reiterated that everything that is happening in Garo hills is a state created problem and they are victims of this step motherly treatment.  He said, “Mukul must step down gracefully as people’s mandate is a power of democracy.” \

Marak said all other elected representatives must take this as a wakeup call and start understanding people’s anticipations taking collective decision for better Garo hills.- By Our Reporter
