Bangladeshis apprehended

SHILLONG, JAN 17: Two Bangladeshis were apprehended by the BSF while they were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory from the Indo-Bangla international border in West Garo hills and West Jaintia hills districts.

They have been identified as John Marak (38) from Kharamora (Garobasti) village under Sherpur district (Bangladesh) and Monir Zaman Monir (33) from a village in Sylhet district, a BSF official informed.

The official said, Marak alias Minchut, who was apprehended on Friday from the international border in West Garo hills is presently being interrogated for any links with militant group.  Meanwhile, Monir was apprehended from West Jaintia hills district and is suspected to be involved with Hawala racketeers, he said.

During searching party recovered Indian Currency worth Rs 1,00,120, BD Taka Rs 33,080, 4 mobile with 2 BD SIM, 1 Identity card and Passport bearing No BC—0813685-BD valid up to 29/11/2019 and visa valid up to 26/06/2015, the official said.

Besides above, BSF also seized 42Cft Wooden logs, 1006Btls of Liquor, 3 Boats, 2.5 Kg of Ganja, and other contraband items, worth value over Rs 10Lakhs while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on Meghalaya border during the week.- By Our Reporter
