SHILLONG, OCT 27: KHNAM members drove two-wheelers to the residences of most of the cabinet ministers and handed memorandums demanding their immediate resignations.

The memorandums were submitted as part of the bike rally organized to garner public support for the upcoming mega procession called by the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) on October 30.

The rally organized by the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) kicked started from Students’ Field, Jaiaw and proceeded to the different parts of the city.

The bikes, numbering around 30, stopped in each and every residence of the cabinet ministers including chief minister Mukul Sangma and home minister Roshan Warjri.

Speaking before the taking off of the rally, KHNAM working president Adelbert Nongrum said, “The objective of the rally is to display strong opposition against the state government’s adamant attitude towards the issues concerning the indigenous community and its people.”

Terming the rally as a wakeup call, Nongrum said, it is to also to appeal to all the residents of the indigenous tribal land to support the demand of the SNSBH, which seeks immediate stepping down of the Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers.

“We also demand the immediate resignation of the CM and his 12 disciples, whose attitude and style of functioning has affected the people of the state,” the KHNAM leader said.

He termed chief minister Mukul Sangma as a “thorn” to the indigenous community. “Therefore, it is high time that this big thorn be removed to ensure that society can prosper,” he added.

The SNSBH has called for the mega procession following the failure of the state government to facilitate the smooth passage of the village administration bills, passed by the KHADC and JHADC, which seeks to empower traditional institutions and traditional heads.- By Our Reporter
