SHILLONG, FEB 5: BJP South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai on Wednesday sought the intervention of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to utilize the Garrison Ground for civilian purposes and implementation of the building bye laws in Shillong Cantonment area.
Shullai was also accompanied by general secretary of Shillong Cantonment Area Development Committee Bipen Pradhan during the meeting.
The BJP MLA requested the CM to lead a delegation to meet Union Defence Minister as the defence authorities does not allow the civilian to use the ground for any purpose. The BJP MLA said that earlier also tranfer of Garrison Ground was requested for civilian usage but nothing concrete has ever materialized. Shullai requested the State Government to move the central authorities to sign a MOU with defence authorities for utilization of ground by both civilian and defence personnels as the defence authority has no reason to hold the ground as it is centrally located and underutilised. This would be in the best interest of both the civilians and defence authorities.
