BJP wants MDA govt to invite HNLC for peace talks

SHILLONG, JUNE 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya said that it would advise the state government to call the banned Khasi rebel outfit – Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) for peace talks.

Reacting to a query during a press conference on Monday, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said that the state party welcomed the HNLC’s offer for peace talks.
“We welcome their offer for peace talks and we are ready to help them if they want to meet the Union Home Minister,” Mawrie told reporters.
Asked, the BJP leader said, “Yes, since we are part of the MDA government, we will take up the matter and advise the government to ensure peace prevail in the state.”
“We want the MDA government to call the HNLC for peace talks,” he added.
Earlier while highlighting the various achievements of the NDA-led government on completing one year of its second term, Mawrie said the North East India was suffering from various insurgency issues for a very long time.
“However, ever since Modi ji took over as PM, there has been 70 per cent reduction in insurgency and 79 per cent in civilian deaths, 17 per cent in security force casualty… Modiji has brought peace and development,” he added.
