Bob to put vice chancellor cap in July

rg (2)SHILONG, APR 25: Throwing cold water over newspapers speculation that former Meghalaya home minister RG Lyngdoh will be contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Lyngdoh instead will be taking over as the Vice Chancellor of the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) from July 1.

MLCU chancellor Dr KM Shyamprasad made the announcement during the board meeting of the Governors on Thursday. Glenn C Kharkongor, the first vice chancellor of MLCU will be pro chancellor of the university.

Lyngdoh, who quit the Congress and electoral politics, is known for his administrative as well as corporate skills. During his tenure as and legislator twice, he had held several cabinet position including home and education minister.

Lyngdoh has a postgraduate degree from the prestigious Xavier Institute of Labour Relations and has held corporate positions in Mumbai and Shillong. At present he is the CEO of Livelihood Improvement Company of Meghalaya (LIFCOM) a micro financing company of the government of Meghalaya.

Lyngdoh is a founder Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum, a forum that involves the stakeholders in the tourism industry in planning and developing the tourism in the state. He is also President, North East Table Tennis Forum and President, Meghalaya Table Tennis Association. 

Lyngdoh has also authored books he is also a poet, musician and photographer.  His coffee table book, “A Pont of View” was released recently. He has been associated with MLCU as advisor for several years and is a member of the board of studies for tourism management.- By Evanjopline Dkhar.
