SHILLONG, APR 10: Shillong Lajong midfielder Boithang Haokip has been nominated in the category of “Fans Player Of The Year Award 2014” in the Football Players Association Of India Awards 2014 to be held on the April 29 at the Park Hotel in Kolkata.
The annual award program is organised by the Football Players Association of India and the 6th edition of the award ceremony will be hosted by Kolkata for the third time.
The FPAI general secretary Cyrus Confectioner said,” The Awards Night are being held in Kolkata, as we feel that Kolkata is the best venue having so many teams in the I-League and also in the second division. Also the press here give the game the maximum coverage and have requested us to bring the Awards to Kolkata every 2-to-3 years as it is still considered the Mecca of Indian Football.”
Confectioner said that the FPAI awards are important as the voting are done by the players themselves. He said the players get the opportunity to choose the player they have played against in the league. He also felt that as the award is being done by an association that represents the players it is a plus point.
The prolific midfielder Boithang Haokip has been nominated alongside players from other football clubs in the same category including; Beikhokhei Beingaichho (Bengaluru F.C.),Karanjit Singh (Salgaocar F.C.),Arnab Mondal (Kingfisher East Bengal), Balwant Singh (Churchill Brothers Goa),Yusa Katsumi (McDowell Mohun Bagan),Victorino Fernandes (Sporting Clube de Goa) and Douhou Pierre (Pune F.C.).
This year there will be as many as five categories such as, Best Young Player of the Season, Best Indian Player of the Season, Best Foreign Player of the Season, Best Coach of the Season and Fans Player of the Year award.
The announcement was made official on the Facebook page of FPAI on Tuesday wherein fans have been given the opportunity to vote for their favourite player by logging onto  their official website www.thefpai.net/index.php or can directly visit www.thefpai.net/awards_vote.php and voting will be closed on the 27th of April.
Shillong Lajong has requested all its fans to vote for Boithang Haokip, who is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding footballers in India besides being known as “Free Kick Specialist”.
