SHILLONG, FEB 5: Even as different political parties’ candidates along with the Independents made a beeline in the East Khasi hills District Election Officer (DEO) office to file the nomination papers along with their supporters, an unclaimed bag near the old General Post Office, behind where the nominations were being filed sent the police into a tizzy.

A bomb disposal squad was immediately rushed to the spot. In fact the bomb disposal squad zoomed past the DEO office with siren blaring and many people who had accompanied the candidates and were waiting outside were surprise to see the speeding vehicle with an activated siren.

East Khasi hills Superintendent of Police (SP) H Kharkhrang told this website that there was an unclaimed bag that raised suspicion and the bomb disposal was rushed immediately. He, however, said that as he has sent his team the details are still awaited.

However one of the onlookers told this website that the bag contained a parcel probably unattended. But he too was not sure. The parcel was kept atop the GPO red post box.By Our Reporter
