SHILLONG, AUG 12: The East Jaintia Hills District Boxing Association (EJHDBA) is preparing for the upcoming Meghalaya State Boxing Championship (MSBC) scheduled to be held soon.
EJHDBA president Damewanhi L Rymbai told reporters at a press conference on Monday, “We would be conducting a trial for the under-14 and under-16 for both boys and girls category at Dkiah West on August 19.
Rymbai said, “Though the EJHDBA was formed in 2011, the association however got its registration just recently and we have decided that we will start functioning in the district by preparing the youths for the upcoming state boxing championship.”
Apart from football, boxing is also one of the famous sports in the state, Rymbai said, He informed, “The main objective of forming the association is to promote boxing in the district and to provide young budding and talented youths the right kind of platform.”
Rymbai further said the association has also decided to hold inter school boxing tournaments and district boxing championship. He added, “We appeal to all young people of the district to come forward for the screening.”
Apart from the president, the other office bearers of the association includes T Bhoh – vice president, Phillip J Bamon – general secretary, MS Suja – joint general secretary and JS Sutnga – treasurer.- By Our Reporter
