BSF rescue Nokma

SHILLONG, APR 17: A village nokma (chief) was rescued by the BSF from the clutches of kidnappers, while they were trying to shift him to Bangladesh from along the international border in West Garo hills district.

Uttam Koch (34), nokma of Halchatti village was abducted by a group of 7-8 suspected Bangladeshi kidnappers, BSF officials said.

Noticing some suspicious movement, BSF patrolling team flashed search light towards the area and found that some persons were trying to ex-filtrate from Indian to Bangladesh territory, they said.

On being challenged by the patrolling team, the kidnappers immediately fled towards Bangladesh side taking advantage of darkness and undulating ground leaving behind the abducted Nokma.

The BSF officials said that the commendable job of the personnel foiled the attempt of the Bangladeshi gang to kidnap the Nokma.

According to them, BSF has lodged strong protest to its counterpart in Bangladesh against illegal infiltration and exfiltration of criminals from Bangladesh into Indian Territory.-By Our Reporter
