Centre keen to have peace talks

SHILLONG, FEB 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the Centre is keen to take forward the peace talks with the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

 

“We got a very positive response from the Government of India. The Government of India is also keen to take this forward but of course we need to ensure that the way we move forward has to be properly defined,” Sangma told reporters.

 

Refusing to divulge more details on the outcome of his meeting with the Union home secretary in New Delhi, the chief minister however said, “We are in the process and we are hopeful to take the entire process much faster.”

 

He also assured that some more developments will be taking place by early next week.

 

Sangma reiterated that the state government is in the process of finalizing the names for appointment of an interlocutor. “We have more names coming in and we will discuss and have a broad consultation especially with the cabinet..,” he said.
