KHADC to introduce online payment of professional tax

SHILLONG, FEB 17: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council is all set  to introduce online payment of professional tax.

“We have asked the executive member in-charge to speed up the process of having online payment of professional tax for the convenience of the taxpayers,” KHADC chief executive member Titosstarwell Chyne told reporters after chairing the EC meeting held on Thursday.

He said the decision was taken after there has been a delay by the taxpayers to clear the payment on time. There are those who are yet to clear the payment since last year taking advantage of the Covid situation in the state.

In view of this, Chyne said that the council was able to collect only Rs 5-6 crore out of Rs 14 crore professional tax per year.

“Therefore, we appeal to all concerned to pay professional tax,” he said. According to him, people have to pay professional tax so that certificate can be issued to them for other official purposes.

Further, the CEM informed that the meeting has also resolved to speed up the implementation of the tied scheme sanctioned by the Government of India.

He said that Rs 20 crore was sanctioned as the first installment under the tied scheme.  “Therefore, we have decided to speed up the implementation so that the villages in the different constituencies are benefited,” Chyne said.

He said this would also ensure the immediate implementation of the second installment which sanction has been made but yet to be released by the government.

Meanwhile, the EC has also discussed the preparation for the budget session 2022-23. Chyne said there is no plan to introduce new bills except placing a report on the inheritance of property bill, which was referred to the select committee for its further fine tuning, during the upcoming budget session.
