CMJ University deputy registrar arrested

CMJ1SHILLONG, MAY 9: CMJ University deputy registrar Premlal Rai was arrested by the state CID on Thursday afternoon. The arrest was made by the investigating team from the office of the CID where Rai was summoned in connection with the investigation of the scam of the university propelled by the FIR lodged by Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary secretariat.

The CID took over the investigation of the CMJ University from the state police.

The controversial CMJ University chancellor CM Jha who is under the CID scanner had also applied for bail bit was rejected by the district session court after the state CID had opposed it.

According to sources Jha had moved an anticipatory bail application through his legal counsel in Shillong before the district session court. The CID has been investigating the cases of awarding fake degrees to the students of the CMJ University which is not recognized.

CID sources informed that the investigating agency might arrest Jha anytime now. The sources informed that as Jha is in Bihar, the investigating agency might contact the Bihar police if necessary.

Though the CMJ University has been operational for sometimes now, but the lid on the flawed functioning of this particular private university was lifted when the Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary- who is the visitor of the university- raised objections.

The governor’s secretariat had also filed an FIR against the CMJ University. The case had been transferred to the state CID who has sealed the university and also investigating into the affairs of the university.

The CID teams had also gone to Guahati in connection with the investigation and sources informed that on Wednesday the team had raided the university complex located at Jorabat and seized many documents.-By Our Reporter

    What about the Cabinet that passed this University Bill and what about the other Universities???….If not for the Cabinet and the Assembly that okayed the Bill, this University would not open shop….

    So its high time the law enforcers do a thorough investigation and book all responsible….for allowing such dubious Universities to run in the State knowing fully well they are not even conforming with the UGC norms,….
