SHILLONG, AUG 9: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has ordered a probe by crime investigation department (CID) into alleged corruptions by officials of DMR and Taxation Department which led to revenue loss.

In a statement issued here, the Achik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF) Director Alex K Sangma informed that the chief minister has asked for a CID probe into the matter following a memorandum submitted by the Forum to the state government earlier on March this year.

“We expressed our heartiest appreciation towards the initiative taken by the chief minister for ordering a CID probe into the corruption in DMR and Taxation department at Dainadubi check gate in North Garo Hills since 2006 to 2015 in which Rs 27 crores is found to be missing from the state’s exchequer,” he said.

Earlier in the memorandum submitted to the chief minister, Alek said that the alleged corruptions was unearthed after receiving an RTI report filed with Taxation department, Shillong and DMR, Williamnagar in 2015.

As per the RTI replies from both the departments,  Alek said the number of coal trucks did not tally despite all of them plying through both departments’ check-gates, which are located at Dainadubi.

“We found that a total of 65, 188 number of coal trucks were missing from both the check-gates,” he said.

As per the RTI report, it was also shown that the DMR was collecting Rs 206.25 per truck as revenue including penalty.

However, Alek said that the DMR and Taxation receipts  obtained from coal truckers was just the opposite as the amount mentioned were Rs 10, 000 and Rs 15, 000 per truck.

Further, it was also pointed in the RTI reports that the total revenue lost by the state government from the missing coal trucks (65,188) from both the check-gates was to the tune of Rs 26,84,89,904 from 2006-2007 to 2014-2015.

The AIJIF director also informed that the RTI filed by one Sengsal Momin, Secretary of NH-62 Save Mission Committee with the DMR, Shillong for revenue collection during the financial year 2012-2013 did not tally with reply given by the department to the AIJIF.

“He (Momin) received the reply in which it was mentioned that the revenue generated was Rs 61,88,42,851 whereas in our RTI it was mentioned Rs 56,02,33,336,” Alek had stated.
