CID takes over CMJ scam investigation

CMJ1SHILLONG, MAY 2: The state CID has taken over investigation of the fraud committed by the CMJ University’s in awarding fake degrees to hundreds of students who had passed out of this controversial institute even as the current students who are pursuing studies in different streams are in complete disarray over their future.

The secretariat of the Meghalaya governor had filed a criminal case  with the police against the CMJ University and its chancellor CM Jha for committing fraud in awarding fake degrees to its students. The police transfer the case to the CID.

Sources in the governor’s secretariat told this website that Governor RS Mooshahary- who is the visitor of the university- is closely observing the progress of the case.

A team of four CID officials have left for Assam in connection with the investigation and are said to be investigating the role of some of the officials of the oldest college located in Guwahati having connection with the CMJ University.  The university chancellor CM Jha is said to be in hiding in Bihar.

A senior official of the CID who is monitoring the investigation told this reporter that the investigation is in a preliminary stage and if necessary the CID team might leave for Bihar and arrest Jha.

The CMJ University scam got busted when Governor Mooshahary- the university visitor- raised objections on various aspects of the functioning of the university and also the appointment of the university chancellor CM Jha.

The governor’s secretariat had written a letter to the CMJ raising the issues of its functioning and had also directed the university to recall all the degrees it had awarded to the past students and also stop further recruitment of students.- By Our Reporter
