CM announce ex-gratia

SHILLONG, JUNE 4: The state government has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of the slain women who was killed by the GNLA even as chief minister Mukul Sangma condemned the gruesome murder of the mother of four children by the GNLA. He said that the government will constituted a special court for holding of trail of this particular case.

Sangma told reporters on Wednesday, “The manner in which the lady has been killed is the most shameful act and definitely reflects the inhuman behaviour of GNLA.”

A mother of four children, Josbina M Sangma (35) was gruesomely shot dead by the cadres of GNLA when she resisted their attempts to molest and rape her at a remote village in South Garo hills district.

Sangma informed that a delegation led by home minister Roshan Warjri and few other colleagues in the government are on their way to South Garo hills to take stock of the situation on ground zero.

Sangma said, necessary cases will be registered and the government will constitute a special court designated to handle the case adding even if they belong to a militant outfits, government will ensure that law take its own course.

Informing that police have been able to identify the cadres involved in the killing, Sangma said, “A cadre by the name of Tengtong had been identified as the person who shot the woman under the command of Jangjang of the GNLA.”

Stating the so called militant organization are claiming to be fighting for the people whom they are actually subjecting to these kinds of sufferings, Sangma said,” Such acts are clear that these people (GNLA) do not have any regard for people’s right and dignity of women.”

Expressing his condolences and to the bereaved family, Sangma said, “The government will provide ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh to the affected family immediately.”

Reiterating the government’s commitment to deal firmly with the problem of militancy in the state, Sangma said, “We have been seeking the support of the central government in terms of manpower and other resources and urged the centre to extend its support in view of the challenges posed by the mushrooming militant outfits in the region.”

Sangma informed that he will be visiting Delhi and call on the union home minister and minister of state to discuss all these things and continue to engage with the centre after the extended Assembly budget session is over.

Sangma said, “I have also spoken to minister of state home Kiren Rijiju and have been highlighted on the various developments that have been taking place over last few months and the kind of support that the state government requires at this juncture.”

Pointing out there are number of pending issues with Ministry of Home Affairs, Sangma said, “But the most urgent thing we need to do is the immediate support from MHA to further strengthen our security forces by providing additional para military forces which we have sought for.”

Urging civil society groups, human rights activists to condemn such heinous act of human rights violation by a militant outfit, Sangma said, “Mute acceptance of such barbaric acts only goes to further embolden these outfits to continue with their unlawful activities against innocent civilians and society at large.”- By Our Reporter
