CM lays railway’s foundation stone in GH

Shillong, Sept 8: Laying the foundation stone of the Rs 86 crore Mendipathar Railway Station at the Mendipathar College Saturday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma called it a historic occasion that will change the socio-economic landscape of Meghalaya.

Present during the foundation laying ceremony were Meghalaya Transport Minister AT Mondal, Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh,Community & Rural Development minister  Saleng A. Sangma, former Meghalaya chief minister SC Marak, North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner W. Khyllep and General Manager Northeast Frontier Railway general manager RS Birdi.

Sangma said Meghalaya missed many opportunities because of the opposition to the railway line into the State and called upon the people to change their mindset. He said railway line will improve and also develop the economy of the State.

Sangma said railway station will generate new hope to the people and that it should also be ensured that the demography of the State is not diluted and the people should not have the perception of alienation and fear of the people should be allayed.

Sangma said that the railway station in Mendipathar will facilitate the marketing of the farmer’s produces which are otherwise left rot in the market places.

Sangma appreciated and also thanked the people of Mendipathar for extending the full cooperation in ensuring that the Railway Station is set up without any public hue and cry.-By Our Reporter
