SHILLONG, JULY 21: The state government on Thursday approved the proposal that the District Selection Committee (DSC), one of the job recruitment agencies in the state, ensure speedy declaration of results.

Addressing newsmen after a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said, “We have approved the proposal for amendment as there is a need for promptly declaration of results by DSCs of different districts.”

According to him, past experiences have indicated there is undue delay in the whole conduct of examination and declaration of results because of certain methodology in the existing guidelines.

Sangma informed the proposal for amendment seeking to do away with the existing component of lengthy essay type and replacing by objective type examination while conducting any job interviews has been approved.

“This will ensure results can be declared at the earliest,” he said while informing that total marks under the objective type will be 300, out of which 70 marks for general English, 100 marks for science and 30 marks each for GK and interview.

He further stated that the DSCs have also been directed to accurately verify the number of vacancies, which is expected to reflect on their advertisements. “They (DSCs) are also directed to immediately make recommendation after declaration of the results,” he said.

When asked about backdoor appointments, the chief minister said that the state government has created the employees’ data base (EDB) which will reflect and capture only those employees recruited on a regular manner.

“This is a step towards creating a deterrent as this government stands for justice and provide that kind of platform where justice is given to all job seekers,” he said.

Sangma however said there are certain cases where adhoc appointment is required on an urgent basis while citing the example of a health department where the post of a nurse cannot be left vacant.

“Inspite of adhoc appointment, we still have to consider proposal of such departments like health and education. But such proposal cannot be done without the approval of the government,” he asserted.

On pointing out that the members of DSC are mostly political appointee, Sangma said, “Who is not a political appointee…our democracy comes with a price. The purpose and objective is to ensure check and balance in the true spirit of democracy.”

Meanwhile, the chief minister assured that the state government will continue to improve the system to ensure justice to job seekers.-By Our Reporter
