Teachers’ salaries increased by 100 percent

SHILLONG, JULY 21: The teachers of adhoc secondary and higher secondary schools including science teachers can now have a sigh of relieve as the state government has decided to fulfill their demands by increasing their salaries by hundred percent.

Teachers from about 1068 schools across the state will stand to benefit from the decision of the state government to enhance their salary. It is estimated that 3212 teachers will stand to benefit from the hike in their salaries.

Informing about the government’ decision on Thursday, Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Education DP Wahlang said, “Teachers in secondary level will now get 20,000 from 10,000 and higher secondary school will be enhanced to Rs 24,000 from the present Rs 12,000 while Science teachers will now get Rs 22,000 from the present Rs 11,000.”

Wahlang also informed that an additional amount of Rs 40.29 crores per annum will be needed with the enhancement of the teachers’ salaries.-By Our Reporter
