CoMSO to intensify agitation

SHILLONG, FEB 19: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) has decided to intensify agitation against the delay of the Centre to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at Tura in West Garo Hills District on Thursday.

“We have decided to intensify our agitation by organizing a series of protest marches and meetings across the state to send a clear message to the Centre that the state wants ILP,” CoMSO secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said in a statement issued on Friday.

He said the objective is to make the demand for ILP a people’s movement. “We will further announce our future course of action to pressurize both the Centre and state governments to implement the ILP without delay,” Synrem said.

Apart from the ILP, the CoMSO has also demanded the Centre to immediately include Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian constitution, to speed up amendment of the Sixth Schedule and resolving the long pending boundary dispute with Assam.
