SHILLONG, OCT 8: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong today hit back at the Congress’ opposition leader Mukul Sangma for shifting the Khliehriat block from Wapung village to Lumshnong village just for “political mileage”.
“The most serious transfer that he (Mukul) has done for political mileage was the shifting of the Khliehriat C&RD Block from Wapung village to Lumshnong village,” Tynsong told reporters here on Monday.
The deputy chief minister was reacting to the recent letter sent by the opposition leader requesting the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to intervene into the alleged “political interference” behind the irregular transfers of police officers in the state.
Alleging that the decision of the former chief minister was done without taking into consideration the sentiments of everybody including cabinet ministers, Tynsong said, “This (shifting of the block) is purely done on the basis of political mileage as there was no decision taken by the cabinet.”
The then Congress-led state government had issued a notification on January 9 for shifting the block from Wapung village to Lumshnong village, just one month ahead of the last Assembly polls.
He said it was also done despite agreement was already signed between Wapung village dorbar, which had donated a huge plot of land, with the deputy commissioner that the Khliehriat C&RD Block will be shifted to Wapung village.
“But that time shifting has not taken place and out of the blue, January this year, again one more order came out and it was shifted to Lumshnong village. Now, we understand and we know the mindset of the previous regime (Congress) you know better, you judge and you give your conclusion,” Tynsong said.
The NPP leader further stated that it was “childish” on the part of the opposition leader to write such a letter to the chief minister because transferring of officers is being done after due diligence from the government side depending on case to case basis.
“However, blaming that the present state government is busy in transferring officers is totally wrong,” he said.
Asked, Tynsong directly accused the opposition Congress for shifting the block from one constituency to another constituency to ensure that its candidate (from Sutnga-Saipung) win the Assembly polls.
He also agreed that the exercise was done after the former independent MLA of Khliehriat constituency Justice Dkhar decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Also blaming the opposition Congress for creating unnecessary confusion over the matter which forced the people from the area to seek the intervention of the Court, Tynsong said, “This is because MUA means Mukul alone as even the C&RD Minister was not aware of this decision. Moreover, he was looking after C&RD department that time.”
Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister informed that the state government has decided the C&RD Block will remain in Khliehriat, the district headquarter of East Jaintia Hills District.
“For the moment, it will not be shifted to Lumshnong or to Wapung,” he said while lamenting that the proposed expansion project of the Khliehriat CHC could not be materialised due to the matter.
