NC against Teilinia

SHILLONG, JUNE 25: The ruling People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Thursday moved a No-Confidence (NC) motion against the KHADC chairperson Teilinia Thangkhiew.

Thangkhiew, who was elected as the first woman MDC to the KHADC chairperson post, is a member of the opposition alliance the All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA). She was elected to the post during the tenure of ARPA.

The NC against Thangkhiew was moved by Congress MDC Victor Ranee.

In his NC resolution submitted on Thursday, Ranee said, “Whereas as a consequent to the alignment of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Independent members resulting in the formation of the PDF executive committee in the KHADC, this house, therefore, expresses its want of confidence in the chairperson of this council.”

The resolution was also admitted by the newly deputy chairman Gabriel Lyngdoh during the ongoing council summer session on Thursday.

When the deputy chairman sought the sense of the house, ten members of the ruling bench stood up to support resolution against the chairperson.

Wahlang has fixed June 30 as the date for disposing of the resolution.

Thangkhiew, a two-time MDC from Mylliem constituency, was elected as the new chairperson of KHADC on March 6, last year.- By Our Reporter
