SHILLONG, JAN 20: AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya and north east V Narayanasamy today said the Congress would launched a comprehensive agitations against the Narendra Modi led NDA-11 coalition government for its alleged ‘anti-farmers’ and ‘anti-tribals’ policy.

“Slowly, this government has become anti-farmers and anti-tribal,” Narayanasamy told newsmen after a meeting with state’s Congress leaders and functionaries on Tuesday.

Narayanasamy’s statement came after the recent amendments brought by the NDA led government in the Land Acquisition Act and Tribal Act. He announced, “From the Congress party, we would have comprehensive agitation programmes against this government at the block and district levels for amending these two acts.”

Narayanasamy said the Congress had told by the present NDA government without protecting the interest of the farmers it is giving away fertile land at a throw away price and added that the farmers have been ignored by the present government.

Narayanasamy accused that the NDA government of slowly withdrawing the fertilizing subsidy as the finance minister had issued a statement that it is going to bring Urea prices under the market mechanism. According to him, farmers are already suffering because they are not getting adequate prices for the produce.

“Therefore, this government does not believe in protecting the interest of the farmers by providing them the subsidy,” Narayanasamy asserted.

Informing that the Tribal Right’s Act of giving the land to the tribal was passed by the parliament during the UPA regime, Narayanasamy said, “They are trying to dilute it (Act) by bringing an amendment saying that the tribal lands can be acquired by the government. So they are taking away the rights of the tribal.”

Pointing that prime minister  Narendra Modi has been telling in every platform that his government believes in minimum government and maximum governance, Narayanasamy said, “Unfortunately, what is happening is the other way around.”

Narayanasamy  further pointed out that so far the chairman of National Banks has not been appointed and the NDA government is yet to decide whether the chairman and bank director can be one person or has to spited. “Unfortunately, the national banks are now running without the chief of the organizations,” he said.

Narayanasamy taunted the prime minister Narendra Modi mantra of less government and maximum governance by saying “This is the maximum governance of this government.” He pointing that when UPA government was there the chairman of the banks was appointed three months prior to the expiry of their term. He said, “That was the efficiency of our government.”

Opposing the scrapping of the Planning Commission by the union government,  Narayanasamy said this is an issue the present government has manage to create controversy as the planning commission has been very important both for the centre and State governments and now it is attached to the office of Prime Minister office.

Narayanasamy alleged that there is no evaluation process for schemes and projects by the present NDA government because the prime minister feels he can announce any schemes and projects without the approval of anybody in between. He said, “Therefore the planning commission has been scrapped.”

Narayanasamy also alleged that the established institutions are being done away with by the present government whether it is related to governance or the protecting the interest of the farmers. He opined that this government is not working for the benefit of the people and in a very short time the NDA government has failed. – By Our Reporter
