SHILLONG, MAY 16: The Jowai Block Congress Committee (JBCC) has petitioned against the power minister Sniawbhalang Dhar for his alleged anti-party activities by setting up a candidate against deputy chief minister RC Laloo in 2018.

In a letter to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief DD Lapang here, JBCC president Andrew A Shullai said, “Party proceeding should be drawn against him (Dhar).”

“This is a fit case for the party to take strong and necessary action by dropping this minister immediately from the Cabinet and withdrawn all party posts he is holding,” he demanded.

Shullai informed that various units of the JBCC have reported that Dhar has personally come to their village/locality and announces that he would set up a candidate from Jowai, the home constituency of deputy chief minister RC Laloo.

As reported by the units, he (Dhar) has also conducted several meetings in many places, some in closed doors and some in open platform directly challenge that his candidate will contest against the sitting Congress MLA, he said.

According to him, the matter was also reported in section of the media when Dhar publicly announce his candidate in a public meeting held at Mukhla village, which falls under 2-Jowai LA Constituency.

“These activities of Dhar have badly damaged the image of the Congress Party thereby putting a big question mark about the disciplined of the Party in general and dampen the spirit of the Congress workers in particular,” Shullai said.

Stating that Jowai constituency is a Congress stronghold and has elected the Party for 5 terms, he reiterated that with this kind of anti-party activity by a minister, it has created confusion in the mind of the party supporters as a whole.

“With the LA election in the next few months only, this type of activities of the said minister should be nipped in the bud and has to be unanimously condemned by all sincere and dedicated party workers,” Shullai added.
